IKEA Nightstand Transformation: A Unique DIY Project by @whatjessflipped

Today, we’re diving into a fantastic DIY project by @whatjessflipped, who took a plain IKEA nightstand and turned it into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece of furniture. The best part? It’s easy to do and doesn’t require a large budget or excessive time.

Materials Required

For this transformation, you’ll need:

  • IKEA nightstand
  • Wood filler
  • Sandpaper (120 grit)
  • Bamboo sticks
  • Miter shears
  • Wood glue
  • Primer
  • Paint (Vagabond and Perfect White)
  • Gold spray paint

The Makeover Process

STEP 1: Prepare the Nightstand:

Start by cleaning the nightstand thoroughly. Fill in any gouges with wood filler and remove the existing hardware.

STEP 2: Sanding:

Sand the entire nightstand using 120 grit sandpaper to create a smooth surface for painting.

STEP 3: Cut Bamboo Sticks:

Using miter shears cut the bamboo sticks to the desired length.

STEP 4: Apply Bamboo Sticks:

Precut the bamboo sticks using one of the sticks as a spacer. Apply wood glue to the sticks and affix them to the nightstand.

STEP 5: Dry and Sand:

Allow the glued bamboo sticks to dry fully. Once dried, sand them down to ensure they’re level with the surface of the nightstand.

STEP 6: Prime and Paint:

Apply a coat of primer to the entire nightstand, including the bamboo sticks. Once the primer is dry, paint the nightstand using a mix of Vagabond and Perfect White.

STEP 7: Spray Paint Hardware:

Lastly, spray paint the hardware gold to add a touch of elegance and reattach it to the nightstand.

Conclusion

And voila! With these straightforward steps, you can transform an ordinary IKEA nightstand into a unique and stylish piece that adds personality to your room. Thanks to @whatjessflipped for sharing this inspiring and budget-friendly DIY project.
