IKEA Cabinet Transformation: A High-End Dupe DIY

The inspiration? A gorgeous $2,300 Lulu and Georgia console. But with some creativity and some DIY spirit, I managed to recreate a similar look for much less IKEA Cabinet Transformation.

Creating a High-End Look with IKEA Cabinets

The journey to my high-end console started with two Ivar cabinets from IKEA. At $130 each, they’re a great, affordable base for this project. The transformation took off when I introduced additional elements like cane webbing, black spray paint, and black cabinet knobs.

If you want to try this IKEA hack, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Two Ivar cabinets from IKEA
  • Cane webbing (I found mine on Amazon)
  • Black spray paint – I used @rustoleum in Flat (5 cans should do it)
  • Wood to create feet, or you can find legs on Amazon
  • A jigsaw for cutting arches
  • Black cabinet knobs
  • Power drill to drill holes for knobs
  • 150 and 220-grit sandpaper
  • Paint of your choosing – I opted for Jett Black by @melangepaints
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Scissors for cutting cane webbing

The IKEA Cabinet Transformation Process

This project might seem daunting, but trust me; it’s achievable! I started by using the jigsaw to cut beautiful arches into the cabinet doors, followed by a good sanding to smooth out any rough edges.

Next, I painted the cabinets with black spray paint and a layer of Jett Black paint. This gave them a luxurious, rich tone.

The cane webbing was a bit tricky to cut, but after some trial and error, I managed to get the right pieces to hot glue to the back of the arched cabinet doors.

Adding the black cabinet knobs was the final touch to this project. And voila, I had myself a stunning console that would give that high-end piece a run for its money.
